Mercatus is excited to welcome Paul Barchitta to its growing team. Paul comes to Mercatus from REdirect Consulting, bringing over his years of experience in financial services and real estate. Ali Mamujee, VP of Product Marketing, recently sat with Paul to learn more about his new role, what brought him to Mercatus, and his thoughts on the future of private markets technology.

What is your role at Mercatus (what are you hoping to accomplish)?

My role at Mercatus is Director of Program Management. My goal is to help our private market clients leverage the Mercatus platform to maximize their returns, workflow efficiency, and their overall specific data management objectives.

What is your background / story?

I was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. Or as I like to call it, the pearl of the Atlantic. I played college football at Fordham University and Wagner College. I have worked in financial services and technology for over 8 years. Prior to joining Mercatus I worked as a Management Consultant at REdirect Consulting. At REdirect, I supported their Real Estate Investment Management business with functional consulting, financial re-engineering, and software implementation and integration services.

What excites you about Mercatus?

The people and the product. The people here are world-class, like minded entrepreneurs and the product is a modern and flexible solution that has a different bespoke approach unlike any other system I have seen in private markets to collect, aggregate, and report private investment data.

What are some challenges or unmet needs in private market / real estate technology?

Even with the emergence of new solutions over the past few years, most of these products are still designed around a “one size fits all” model. Companies are finding themselves still in legacy systems or Excel, and still do not have a central ecosystem for their data. Waterfalls and other types of performance calculations tend to be too complex for most systems to handle and forces the need to keep that data in Excel or simple legacy systems.

How do you see private market / real estate technology evolving over the next decade?

I believe we will see a tremendous amount of general growth in the adoption of private market & real estate technology. I also see the increased demand fund managers will be required to share private investment data in real time with investors and other stakeholders.

Give us a fun fact about yourself. Or what is something interesting about you?

I recently rented an RV with my girlfriend and pup. We spent a week in Bar Harbor, and then boondocked for a week on the beach (literally) in Cape Cod!
