Mercatus is excited to welcome Jonathan Litterick to our growing team. Jonathan is a London-based Sales Director and he was most recently a strategy consultant working with a variety of financial services clients. We recently sat down with him to learn more about his new role and what brought him to Mercatus.

What is your role at Mercatus?

My role is Director, Sales based in London and I’ll be driving new business in the EMEA region.

What is your career background?

Prior to Mercatus, I was a strategy consultant working with the world’s leading global financial, accounting, legal and PE businesses to help improve their client experience. A huge part of this role was spent helping them to maximize the value they get out of data they have, and deliver better service as a result – meaning many parallels with the role Mercatus fills when partnering with clients. Before this I spent a number of years at a private markets investment firm, maximizing the efficiency of the portfolio – meaning I spent a lot of time modeling in Excel, so I can empathize with the challenges our clients face.

What are some unmet needs from private market investors around data management technology?

As I have been on the other side of the coin, I’ve experienced first-hand the challenges private market investors can face with data throughout the deal cycle. There is an over-reliance on antiquated technology in private markets investment and firms are bottlenecking their potential by relying on Excel. I love Excel (am I allowed to say that?), but relying on it exclusively for modeling means putting yourself at a disadvantage against your competitors. Many firms don’t realize that they can super-charge their efficiency, scalability and growth with a platform like ours.

What excites you about Mercatus?

How long have I got? Many things, but if I had to choose two I would say the people and the product. I was lucky enough to meet most of the Mercatus team in person at a long overdue team week, and the energy, culture and team at Mercatus were infectious. Couple that with an already market-leading product that is constantly improving, and the future looks extremely exciting for Mercatus.

How do you see private market technology evolving over the next decade?

I think the winners and losers in the private markets investment world in the next decade will be largely be determined by the usage of technology. There is so much room to increase efficiency and insight throughout the deal cycle from the current state, and partnering with a future-facing technology firm like Mercatus is the way to stay ahead of the pack.
